Reports at William Brookes School
Following feedback from parents and recommendations in our 2024 Ofsted report, which highlighted the need for more frequent updates on student progress, we have enhanced our reporting system. From now on, you will receive two reports every term: an Academic Report and a Personal Scorecard.
These reports provide a clear overview of your child’s academic achievements and pastoral development throughout the year. They are designed to give you meaningful insights into how your child is progressing and where support may be needed, helping you stay fully informed and involved in their learning journey.
Reports include information on:
· Quality of learning
· Attitude to learning
· Attendance and punctuality
· Personal Targets
We encourage you to review the report with your child and discuss the next steps together.
If you have any questions:
· Form Tutor – first point of contact
· Head of Year – for wider concerns
· Careers Advice (Post-16) – Mrs. Lawrence via email: wbs-info@wbs.318education.co.uk
Understanding the Reports
The Sections And What They Mean

House Points – Recognition for positive behaviour, effort, and achievement
ATL (Attitude to Learning) – Engagement and motivation on a 4-point scale
Personal Target Grade – Based on KS2 SATs data

Personal Scorecards (Years 7–11)
Scorecards measure readiness to learn and commitment to school expectations. Categories include:
· Attendance
· Punctuality
· Quality of classwork and homework
· Attitude to learning & house points
· Uniform and appearance
Each category is scored out of 10:
· Gold: 10 points
· Silver: 5 points
· Bronze: 3 points
Combined scores determine an overall Gold, Silver, or Bronze award.
Academic Reports (Years 7-11)
Issued to monitor academic progress:
· Year 10: Teachers provide a GCSE grade range based on current work.
· Year 11: Reports include mock exam grades, target grades, and predicted grades.
If forecasts fall below target, teachers may contact families to agree on strategies for improvement. Heads of Year will also step in if concerns span multiple subjects.

Family Contact
We’re excited to introduce a new way of keeping communication personal and meaningful, based on feedback from parents. Instead of teachers writing general comments for every student, they will now simply indicate if they would like to speak with you.
If a teacher requests contact, we kindly ask that you take the lead in reaching out. This could be a quick email or a short phone call—whatever works best for you—to talk through any areas they feel need attention or support.
If your child receives several requests, please contact their Head of Year instead of their class teachers.
This approach is designed to make communication more focused and helpful for your child’s progress. By working together in this way, we can strengthen the partnership between home and school, ensuring every student gets the support they need to thrive. We really appreciate your involvement in making this a success.
